Color: Royal Red Metallic & Sand -- looks great (always hard to tell from paint chips and digital camera pics)! I wanted something other than the silvers, grays, and blues that I see more often. The sand leather interior makes the interior seem warmer as well. Interestingly enough, the royal red goes really well with the red/white taillight setup.
530i: I was looking for more HP than the 525i offers, but didn't want to spend the extra coin on the 540i. Even before post-breakin driving, the car screams up long uphill grades without breaking a sweat.
Steptronic: wife wanted auto, I wanted manual. Perfect compromise! Also allows for a better experience in stop & go traffic or whilst sipping a hoity-toity coffee drink.
Premium package: What? No Sport-Premium, you ask? I was looking for a sporty comfy sedan, and would prefer to have the stiffest suspension and fastest engine in a two-seater that's built just for speed.
Cold weather pkg & heated steering wheel: Nice in the winter and singularly responsible for winning over my loving wife.
Power rear sunscreen: Living in the high desert makes for a hot car in the summer, so I'm looking forward to using this.
Xenon: Who cares how they look -- these suckers turn night into day. Now it'll be hard to drive a car without 'em.
In-dash CD: pretty self explanatory. Glad I got it.
Other miscellaneous thoughts:
-- Fast, quiet, comfortable, understated: just what I was looking for
-- Dashboard lighting plus xenons make for an awesome night driving experience
-- The numbers for the trunk volume seem kinda small, but it's a perfect rectangle, so it's all usable and it looks cavernous
-- You know how with cheap cars, they advertise stuff like DOHC or ABS? With this car, there's so many features, they can't even cover everything in the thick sales brochure.
-- Things that suck: the cupholders. Even with a million messages on this board giving me advance notice, I was surprised how lame they are.
-- After 100+ miles, I'm getting over 22MPG. That's about on par with our Subaru Outback (which, BTW, seems like a POS now!)
-- The light rings with the xenons look killer at night. You have to just stop and gaze at the beauty.
-- Already got flipped off once, for no particular reason
-- Car was delivered with five miles on the odometer
-- Even though delivery took forever (not the dealers fault), I give high marks to Jim Tully at Peterson BMW in Boise, Idaho (um, USA).
