Overall, it's been very smooth, although this morning, I noticed a little bit of jerk as it shifted up. I attributed it to me tromping on the gas, so I'll pay more attention the next time around. Are you through the break-in yet?

It doesn't have much competition for comparison, though: my 97 Subaru Outback is jerky without the engine power and the 94 Explorer (replaced by the 530i) had a tranny replaced at 53K miles!

I also picked up my 530iA a few weeks ago and share similar experience as you do. One thing I found is that the auto transmission gear shift is very noticable. After driving Japanese cars for the last 12 years, I was surprised how unsmooth it is. My coworker told me it's a "feature" that sports car drivers perfer. What is your experience? Is your auto transmission smooth?

Thanks.
