Sprint uses CDMA technology. The major providers using GSM are Voicestream, Cingular (Pacific Bell), Cingular (Bell South DCS), Powertel and AT&T soon. For a GSM coverage map, go to GSM World's Coverage Maps or Cellular News' Coverage Maps for each GSM companies coverage.

As a side note, I currently use Voicestream and used to use AT&T until my contract was up. I have found that locally (Philadelphia Area), Voicestream has been much better and in 5 months so far of having Voicestream, I haven't dropped a call yet! I think if people actually look at the other providers DIGITAL maps and not their total coverage maps, GSM coverage is almost as good. The downside to most GSM phones is they don't have an analog module built into them, so they don't roam onto the analog networks, which is both good and bad. I have been able to use my phone (Motorola Timeport P7389) in Hawaii, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Detroit, Miami, Houston, Houston, and New York so far without a hitch. I was also good over in London with my International Roaming. GSM may not have as good total coverage as AT&T and Verizon since all of their phones will fall back to Analog, but with AT&T now starting to switch their network to GSM, coverage gaps with fill in rather quickly.

Hope this helps.

Chad
