I recommend replacing the speakers and the amp in the stock setup. I and a few others are running the MB Quart RSB215 components using the stock DSP amp, but on the stock amp, you really need more clean power so go with a nice 5 channel by Rockford (Power 600.5)/Precision Power/or Alpine
and run that signal into the Passive crossovers the RSB 215s come with and then into the MB Quart speakers.
Patch the rca cables into the PReamp outputs, details at Go to http://209.24.95.253/bmwsite/bmwmain.htm

Sound quality will be stunning with an aftermarket amp and those speakers, trust me.
Run the 5th channel or 5/6 channel into a single Kicker S10L7 sub in a sealed enclosure in the trunk or if its a lease then use two freeair Kicker F10c's.
