Personally, I don't like this location. I have mine in the dash somewhat covering the maintenance lights (as posted by another member). This still isn't ideal, but the key for me is that I want to be able to glance at the indicators very, very quickly and then get my eyes looking in the right direction for trouble. With the indicator in the ash tray I'd have to move my arm, glance down (moving my head) and then start the search. That's just too much movement/time. I think the ideal answer would project the bogey status up on the windshield ala Cadillac heads-up displays (which are far less useful).
