$40k for a 1997 is total stupidity (archive)

Its (almost) a 4 year old car... so depreciation is $10k over 4 years... yeah right!

The car will be worth high 20s in 2 years.

I have noticed that it just doesn't pay to buy a 3 year old BMW. The cars seem to depreciate more in years 4-6 than the first 3 years... with no warranty.

Model redesign will be the nail in the coffin for the resale of the 97. A 95 (youngest of the previous generation) goes for $21k. I don't think a car that is one MY newer is worth twice the price.

I often wonder how many of these overpriced used E39s sell for a price within $2k of the asking price.
