M3 / 540i legroom / ride (archive)

HELP! I was sold on buying a 540i but am being drawn to the M3. How much more rear legroom does that 540i have...that seems to be the only reason to buy the 540i over an M3. What is the ride quality difference from M3 to 540i w/ sport susp? Am looking at 97 model year in both cases.
