Jim,
I've been snooping the I/K bus on my
'00 528i. Is there any docs on the address
used by the CD changer? I'd like to avoid
borrowing a unit to determine its address, and
how the radio/tape (on my car) unit discovers
the CD changer (and when) as well as how the
CD changer is given permission to write to the
MID etc. I've already worked out the checksumming
and the overall frame structure. I'd like to
understand as much as I can.
Thanks,
Tom
We've all talked about decoding the OBC and changing settings on the radio, but what about hacking into the car's main computer(?) itself.
I mean, changing things that can only be changed with the dealer's diagnostic equipment. For instance, being able to change the settings so that one can roll up the windows from the key remote (something that can be done in Europe).
Is it possible to somehow hook up a laptop with the right software and tinker around?
Start here
But it also requires their special PC to car interface - which is mega bucks.
And then you have to know hoe to use it.
Suggest you stick with the dealer, and write to BMW asking that they put in a menu to allow owners to adjust their own optional settings.
