Can 1st. oil change be at 15,000mi????? (archive)

I bought my new ride.....540iA in November. I have 8,000mi on her already and am about to put another 2,500 when I go on vacation soon. I called my dealer about an oil change and he said don't worry, your car won't need an oil change for another 7,000mi. The indicator on the dash shows 2 yellow lights. Can this be true? Should I go elsewhere and have the oil (syn.) changed out? My last car, Lexus SC400 needed an oil change (reg oil) after 1'000mi. I know German technology is great but......I'm a little concerned. If I took her to an independent BMW repair guy for an oil change, would that compromise my warranty? HELP!!! Thanks!
