He is not cheap, but i figure that if a baseball player making millions of dollars trusts him to do the right job, then i can probably trust him as well. That said, i didn't just blindly (well, I really couldn't see well) go there and give him my eyes to laser. I did my homework on the procedure and talked with lots of people who had it done. I was comfortable with what i heard and i had the procedure done.
The procedure takes about 30-45 seconds. It works best on people who are nearsighted. My vision was atrocious. I could not even read the alarm clock in bedroom without glasses (and i certainly couldn't see anything further than 20 feet clearly).
Anyhow, i went in on a friday afternoon for the procedure. Before you get there (about an hour before) you take a couple of vicadins -- to make you feel relaxed. You go to the doctor's office. You get the surgery, and you go home. You have to wear these eye patches over your eyes starting from the minute you leave the procedure until the next day when you meet the doctor.
The night of my surgery (post-surgery) i could not sleep with the medication they gave me to relieve pain. It felt as though i had sand in my eyes and i could not get it out. Not a good feeling. But it subsided within 12 hours. The next day there was no discomfort at all.
The next morning at the doctor's office i tested at 20/15 in both eyes. 3 months later i was testing between 20/10 and 20/15. A year later i am certainly 20/15. My eyes still get a little dry at night and i use eye drops to keep them moist. My day vision is awesome. Night vision is good but not as good as daytime.
All and all, i highly recommend the procedure. But just heed my words about this procedure being best-suited for those with nearsightedness. Most of the problems that i have heard about have occured in people who are farsighted. They are getting better with their farsighted technology, but it's still not there.
Anyhow, Dr. Kawesch is awesome. He was a little more expensive but well worth it. I know there are some doctors offering awesome deals out there, but in some cases they are just trying to build a clientele. I would rather have someone who has done the procedure thousands of times. I don't want a doctor cutting his teeth on my eyes.
Take care and best of luck.
