Jim,

I think I have the problem stated in the subject svc bulletin. It is a loud clicking/tapping noise from bottom of engine. The correction is to replace main bearings. I had an ex-BMW mechanic who diagnosed this. I have made one trip to the dealer who says they found nothing wrong. I have not confronted them with the bulletin.

My question is, since this requires essentially a rebuild am I better off ignoring since the bulletin states "in no way compromises the reliability of continuous engine operation". I'm not sure I want folks taking this apart if they could inflict more harm than good.

I really would like your thoughts! It goes back to the shop tomorrow....

Thanks,

Mark
