Xpel vs BMW Clear Protective Covering (archive)

The 2000 BMW accessories book lists BMW's clear covering for $100 less than Xpel's price (assuming one buys the kit for the bumper, hood, fender, mirror, etc.). Why wouldn't one buy from BMW if both places sell the same 3M product?
