The BMW kit does use 3 pieces on the hood. I've not seen an X-Pel kit to compare with it. But BMW does have two kits, one for hood, fenders and mirrors, other for front bumper. Paid $143 incl. shipping via Pacific BMW. Installed 2 weekends ago without major pain.

Oh yeah. One other difference: BMW kits: no video! They assume you're a skilled tech.


seen some "3M clear protective film" have different cuts.

One gentlemen posted a pic of his install and there was a mating lined near the grills on the hood that does not exist with the Xpel cut. I assumed it was the BMW film but he didn't know.

Xpel also offers you a video but you must ask.
