Costco Tire Horror (archive)

After a couple of track schools and 20,000 miles it was time to replace the stock Dunlops. I chose Bridgestone RE730s. Costco seemed like a simpler alternative to Tire Rack, no shipping plus good warranty. Well . . .

First Costco screwed up the special order. It took four weeks to get the tires. One employee was honest enough to admit that another employee had dropped the ball and forgotten to order the tires, but the others simply made up excuses.

The more serious problems came with installation. I picked up the car, ran some errands, and came home. On close examination I noticed that each rim had been marred and that the wider tires were mounted on the LEFT rather than the REAR. (Yeah, I should have noticed this when I picked up the car, but from the side they really look quite similar.)

I can hardly trust the same tire center to make it right, so I'll probably go to an independent dealer to remount the tires. I'd appreciate any suggestions on dealing with Costco for these additional costs plus the rim damage.
