The stock exhaust is too far to the left and does not look good with the M bumper and welding a new tip does not work. I bought new stainless dual dtm tips in the hope that it would fit and line up but it did not. So the only alternative is to go with a different muffler. The BMW muffler is a single 3" chrome tip (anyone have a part #?) which is on the M appearance package in Canada and Europe. I have heard that the Left side to the M5 fits with only a modification to the hanger points but that is $620 from the dealer. I'm not sure how any aftermarket mufflers align with the cut-out but I do know most hang too low for the M-technic cut-out so that they can fit the standard bumper. I would like a dual tip setup on my car also but I'm still researching the solution. I have a local custom car shop working on the problem too. Any comments from other board members that have done the same setup and any pictures of a dual setup. See my car on the photo gallery (but the dual exhaust tips were added in photoshop!)

I have seen a twin setup done on a few E39 with the M5 body kits. A company over in my town in UK has been doing it for the past year now. I am planning to do it to my car in 3 weeks time where we will first fit the full M5 aero package. Once thats is on the car, the exhaust will be fabricated to have two twin pipes on either side. It can be done and has been done. Best to make one up with a good exhaust specialist rather then buy an off the shelf unit. BTW, I am having the exhaust made from the CAT onwards which will be a one-off since most people just rather cut off the back boxes and rebuild from there.
