When the child gets old enough to start messing up your car by spilling or touching do what we did get a second vehicle dedicated to kids, camping and various other messy activities.

No need for that; go to a cloth store (clothworld) pick up a sheet of naugahydy in your color of choice, and line the entire back seating area with it. Vomit, food, fries, chicken nuggets, juice, snot, leaky diapers, and blood stains just wipes off. THe rear being covered all this time, still has that new car smell and looks brand new.

For camping, to the beach, and on THansgiving trips, I use a roof rack and cargo box. More than enuff room to handle two weeks worth of clothes and gear. Plenty of room also for a TV and VCR for back seat occupants.

I raised my 5yr old and 20 mo. in my e39 since it was purchased new. I also have three more cars sitting around my garage that I personally use. But when I have to take my kids anywhere, it's in the e39 SEDAN. My experience, the sedan is more than enough for a family of four.
