Need help with subwoofer hookup for 99 540 w/DSP (archive)

I've got a 10" sub in a box and a separate amp and need some help setting it up. I'd like to leave the rest of my stock DSP system as is for now and just start with the sub for additional bass.

Here are a few questions....

1. The sub amp accepts RCA inputs - where should this be coming from? Which wires?

2. Is a crossover necessary to filter out the higher frequencies from the sub?

3. Can I leave all other existing speakers hooked up as is?

4. Should I connect the positive from the amp directly to the battery (with a fuse in between)?

Any additional tips and/or pics would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Chris
