On my 2001 X5 the PDC switch is used for turning on PDC on front when you want to park forward. It is automatically turned on once you put in reverse (the green LED of the PDC switch turns on). And it stays on also for the front when you put back in forward. It turns of after 50 meters or when faster than some mph (15?).
