Getting the air out of a brake system seems to be a lost art these days. I don't know why.
Come to my garage in Maplewood, NJ some weekend and I'll set you up. We'll use my pressure bleeder AND we will simultaneously do a conventional bleed with someone pushing on the pedal and me cracking open the bleeder screws at just the right moment to set up a jolt in the fluid that will knock loose any pesky bubbles clinging to the sides of irregular surfaces.
I'll also tap the calipers with a rubber mallet.
If there's any air in the system, we'll get it out. I've not yet met a car I couldn't bleed. :-)
