You need special forged pistons to handle boost above a certain safe level on a stock motor.

Example:
4.4L's are safe up to ~10-11psi within the manifold. I would not take it above that because the engine has not been built specifically for boost. You have thermal issues to consider within the engine components to aid in the effectiveness of the boost. etc, etc, etc.

There are books out there on turbo engines and supercharging, etc. if you want more detailed-scientific specs on how it all works.

Good luck on your efforts. 3.0L Turbo would be a nice ride. Active Autowerkes has their shit together, contact them.
