this is a common misconception! It will BOLT in, but it takes a lot of work to get the cooling system working, all the lines in, etc. Then the software issue!

Even with SC's car they are having problmes. Generally softwart based. This is even worse on an e39. The codes are not the same as in an e36. So a typical OBDI retrofit on an e36, if done right will not drop right into the e39. The 528 ecu and 328 ecu are nto the same. Yes, they both drive the smae motor, but you have a lot of encryption and functions that are nto the same.

To do a correct install on an e39 thus means that you not only have to figure out how to make a cooling system work (the stock one ain't gonna work with the new motor), determine where to put the oil cooler, route lines for all this. Then you have to spend a lot of hours re-wriring things. Then you have to pay someone lieek Jim COnforti thousands of dollars to tune the thing to actually work! Even with SC's car this is where he is at!

So you may be 9-10 grand for the engine, but the conversion will add another 5-8 grand easy if done right!

No, a US 3.2 - that is a MUCH easier job, and with cams and tuning you can see hp within 20-25 hp of the euro for less money and an easier install!
