Check out regulation 1620(b), paragraph(4). It talks about the 90-day test. Basically if you buy a car out of state, regardless of its age, you have to pay California use tax unless you owned it for at least 90 days before you bring it into California.

So I've been perusing several online auto classified websites and it appears that I can save myself quite a bundle (anywhere from $2K-$10K) by buying outside of California. Has anyone from within CA done this, and if so, what gotchas have they come across. I know there's a requirement that any cars have at least 7500 miles on them, so I don't suspect getting bitten by that bug. Any other gotchas besides emissions and stuff like that? Thanks in advance.
