I've not used the Home Link product itself, but I do have the X10 stuff in my house on which it's based. Works pretty well. The main controllers lose their minds once in a while, but other than that it works pretty reliably. I've got lights, camera, thermostat, some security stuff, etc. Besides the usual controllers, you can also control things through the computer and via a web page or phone.

Check www.x10.com for starters and/or do a search for x10 and home automation. You'll find a ton of stuff. Get ready to spend some money if you get into it lol. Lights and most basic things are pretty cheap at about $5-$10. Some of the higher-end stuff can get expensive. Generally, you can use any X10-based devices, so look for sales and close-outs.

Overall, after a while some of the cool wears off, but a lot of it's still pretty practical and convenient.
