I installed the CPT 8000 in my 2001 530 a few weeks ago.

You need to buy two items: the phone (several versions available depending on your cellular provider) and the installation kit (two versions for 2001 depending on whether you have NAV or not). The install kit contains step-by-step instructions and all the parts you need for the standard installation. You can optionally add a voice recognition kit and a signal "compensator". I haven't installed either of these yet, so I cannot comment on them. However, I have read that the compensator doesn't have an clean mounting location and you will need to drill some new holes in the car to install.

Installation of the install kit is not that difficult. Plan on 2 to 3 hours for the install. There are four steps. 1) install microphone, 2) install phone cradle, 3) install electronics in trunk, and 4) install antenna. I had some difficulty with the phone cradle and the antenna. For the cradle, you must pull out the compartment with the sliding door. This took me a long time but others have had it pop right out. With the pre-wired antenna, you must pull out the headliner in the center rear to access the antenna cable. I was able to access the cable easily enough, but still haven't figured out how to properly reseat the headliner.

On the M5 site, there used to be a detailed discussion on this install, but I don't know the link. Anyone have it bookmarked?

Information about the different flavors of phones can be found at www.bmwwireless.com (use username "BMWNA" and password "digital")

Hope this helps,

Has anyone installed a CPT 8000 kit in their 2001 5 series? If so, how difficult was the installation? Also, is there somewhere that I might find the parts list?

Thank you.
