I too live in New Jersey. I feel your pain about dealers. About your problem. I have a 1998 540i and was going thru the same things you are. I asked a few people on the board and found out that this is a commen problem. I called the dealer (DiFeo BMW) and a very nice guy told me that he's aware of the a/c problem. He said it was some resistor of some sort and that the part was on back order at almost every dealer. It's true too, I called 5 dealers and was put on a waiting list. They were nice enough to fix the problem no questions asked and no charge. Not bad huh? Sorry I can't be more specific on the part, I'm not a mechanic or claim to know that much about cars. Hope this helps and good luck. Oh at least the weather around here as been a little better .
