The real reason for no CDV is that M5 has much stiffer springs in pressure plate. Absence of CDV warranted stronger synchros in 1-2-3 gears.

Otherwise, differentials are different - M5 has much stronger one and CDV in 540 protects it from shock loads. Never mind tranny and the driveshaft.
