In Reply to: My 2000 528iT loaner has infamous shimmy! posted by NY2OCJeff on September 02, 2001 at 18:39:41:

Had an intermittent shimy-like problem with my wife's 540 a while ago after service. They had adjusted the parking brake too tight so it wasn't completely releasing.

After a while things would heat up and start grabbing, causing a vbration.

Of course when I went on a test drive with the service guy it didn't do the vibration thing but they checked the parking brakes and found that one was sticking. They replaced the shoes and readjusted it.

Yesterday, the entire day, the front end was shimmying as if each of the front wheels was 1/2 out of balance. Today, solid as a rock. WTF gives with these cars? I was ecstatic yesterday because I thought the loaner would be the perfect guinea pig for the dealer to diagnose. It's their car, they can have it as long as they need it, etc. Now I'm no better off than I was before. Two cars that shimmy intermittently, and rarely when the dealer has them. Great. BMWNA? Help?
