I used to live in Korea as well as in other Southeast Asian countries. I saw new E36 318 and 320 BMWs in authorized BMW dealerships that had "M3" legit badging on the trunk. Horrified, I demanded immediate explanation, and the dealer told me that BMW AG sells these fake "M3" cars w/ only M3 bodykits and mirrors but not the M3 engines. They said they call it the "M3" package and it was a nice extra revenue generator.

Remember, in these countries these cars serve more as "status symbols" for rich foggies and "chick magnets" for rich, young, horny males...

plus I doubt the general public in Korea and other countries are sharp-eyed enough to spot a fake M5. In fact, I bet most folks don't even know what a M5 is. They see a "BMW", and that's it... BMW sells less than 300 new BMWs a year in Korea
