I've got a nice home set up and I'm quite satisfied with my 2001 DSP system. I'm not a purist audiophile as I know what my ears like to hear and can manipulate the sounds accordingly. I had a 2000 DSP system also and was satisfied with it. It took a little time to figure out the acoustics of the car to set the equalizer correctly, but after I figured it out I've been able to get some amazing sound out of the systems. You can't just set the equalizer and leave it alone forever, you need to switch it depending on the music.
Also, I don't set the car equalizer the same as I do in my home. My only complaint would be that the equalizer settings should be touch screen as I adjust the equalizer quite frequently...and also you should be able to switch between NAV and the equalizer easier.
The way everyone talks you would think the BMW stereo systems have the same sound quality of an old boom box. I listen to everything from Rap to Classical and system handles everything very well.
If you are someone that cranks your stereo all the way up to distortion just to get loud "attention getting" noise then you will obviously need to add-on. If you add-on then you should also invest in some ear plugs becaue you wont' be able to stay in the car. The bass response on the standard DSP is more than adequate for crisp creeping thunder.
yeh-yeah!
