First of all, I have set the tone button with BASS at the 2nd notch to the right from the very lowest. It is set to reduce the overall bass frequencies. I very rarely change this setting as the intent is to lower the overall bass frequencies and then push back up individual frequencies. You could probably do the same thing with the equalizer but your bass settings would always be near the bottom.

I have the (3) memory settings set for different types of music.

Memory 1 is for mellow music that doesn't have a strong bass line (i.e. new age, cranberries, Unplugged, etc.). I have the room larger and a lot of reverb so as to give it more of a concert hall. I don't have the individual settings with me but I always keep the middle range down lower than the rest. Basically an upside down parabola on the frequency settings (or a rock-n-roll smile as some call it)

Memory 2 - is more suited for hard rock and typical music. Less room size, less reverb, and less exaggerated rock-n-roll smile.

Memory 3 - is more for RAP or heavy bass as it has less reverb, smaller room size and less low end on the graphic equalizer. More like a motorcycle ramp with the low end being the bass. You adjust the bass on the fly to each song to maximize the thunder. Even though you turn down the bass in the tone control you can adjust the equalizer to produce some pretty powerful road thunder.

That's all I can give for now, and I don't think that there is really a magic setting that will be good for all rap music. Some Ryder music has a lot of really low end bass and you have to adjust to accomodate it.

Oh and Dave Mathews could be either a Memory 1 or Memory 2 setting depending on the song.

The whole key is that with RAP you can't have a lot of reverb because then it distorts the bass at higher volumes.

I have 97 with dsp/nav what is a good setting for rap, and how bout stuff like Dave Matthews
