According to the 2002 5er brochure that is just out, the up-shift and down-shift positions for the Steptronic transmission are REVERSED in MY2002 -- now you pull the lever towards the driver to up-shift! This can be a significant change for people used to pre-2002 cars test driving the 2002 model.
<I've now had my 2002 530i for about 10 days, and I've got to tell you, the new shift pattern's taking some getting used to. I've only put a couple of hundred miles on it so far, but it really seems to me to be counter-intuitive. Good thing the computer won't allow overrevving, 'cause I've sure shoved it in the wrong direction a couple of times. Hopefully I'll get used to it soon.>>For other changes contained in the brochure, check out my earlier post.
