My differential was replaced (11/97 production 1998 model 540i) under recall a couple of years ago. There were only a handful included in this recall (about 45 days worth of production if I recall correctly).

Well, I've got a brand new diff. and the car has been running fine now for ~100Km. The dealer still doesn't know why the old diff. failed. They even took it apart. I'm calling BWM Canada tomorrow.

OT: Just bought a wireless access point and a wirless network card for my laptop and is this stuff ever cool. Now I can acces the internet from anyone in my house. Even my backyard. Highly recommended.
