My '82 733i with 148k miles sometimes does not start. The engine turns over but the tach needle doesn't move and the car doesn't start. If the ignition is turned off and I try again after a couple of minutes, the tach needle starts to jump and the car starts right up. The car runs fine otherwise. This will happen when the car is cold or warmed up. Could it be a bad coil? Is it best to hook this up to a diagnotic machine to see if the brain is fritzing out? Cap, rotor and wires seem OK but I plan to replace them soon.
This is the most annoying and troublesome BMW out of four that I've owned.
