: I am trying to determine exactly what "vintage" my Motronic is: the reason for this is to see if my unit can be chiped or if
: it will require the E-Prom refit first.
: TheNumber is 0261 200 008 there is a 78 in smaller numbers to the right of the main numbers. The vehicle production date is 12/83

: When I removed the front and back covers from the unit and the 4 screws (2 phillips/2 sloted screws) from the circut boards, neither board was willing to lift out, and given that discretion is the better part of vaLor, I did not try to force them and reinstalled the Motronic.

Your board (pre-'85) has the chip soldered in. You need to send the whole box to a supplier to have a new chip- installed. That limits the chip suppliers since most don't do pre-85 chips.
