I have a '82 733i, 223K, and one time the car just quit on the highway. It would crank, but the engine would not turn over. It turned out to be the fuse in the fuse box for the fuel pump. The ceramic fuse holders spread apart a little to far. Making the fuse loose in the holder.

: My '82 733i with 148k miles sometimes does not start. The engine turns over but the tach needle doesn't move and the car doesn't start. If the ignition is turned off and I try again after a couple of minutes, the tach needle starts to jump and the car starts right up. The car runs fine otherwise. This will happen when the car is cold or warmed up. Could it be a bad coil? Is it best to hook this up to a diagnotic machine to see if the brain is fritzing out? Cap, rotor and wires seem OK but I plan to replace them soon.
