Hi Rob,
First off there are 4 gaskets (two per side) and they are thick. Like clockwork they seem to go around 70-80K miles requiring replacement which at 6-7 hours of labor and almost $100/gasket from the stealer is expensive. Dinan offers a kit which is supposed to prolong the life of the manifolds by using better, more durable stuff. Essentially, Dinan mills down about a 1/4 inch worth of gasket and replaces it with his funky material which also supposedly provides a larger mating surface area. This kit is supposed to be able, in some instances, replace the need for new gaskets depending on the condition of the old ones. Of course, milling gaskets = more labor expense but the claims are that the kit will extend the life of new gaskets by about 30-40K miles. Many just replace the gaskets and use gasket cement with good results. Something to consider, while you're in there, is to hone out and polish the intake manifolds which are notoriously constricting on this engine. Dinan sells these at a whopping $2K but for a lot cheaper, you can have your stock manifolds sent out to be bored out if you don't mind losing use of the car for a little while.
As for me, well, my rough idle in the cold mornings is gone.
