: What you describe is typical of the '2000 unit. My car was delivered last August and I found the sound system far inferior to the same unit on a '98 740iL. The DSP controls minimally affect the base. Although BMW would not acknowledge it, it is likely that used a different suppier in '2000. I would ask your dealer to take a look at your unit, but I would bet there will be no improvement. if you listen to another '2000 I think you will see the same issue. Fortunaltey, the car is so terrific otherwise, after a while the radio annoyance fades, although frankly the sound system on a '2000 Jeep Larado is far superior.

I've read of other disappointments with the premium sound system but have been pleased with the unit in my '97 and have not found the bass to be thin. Actually, quite realistic and not boomy.
