: The first glitch in my new bimmer. When I was driving on the highway another day, the check oil warning light and approximately 20 secs later the message: STOP ENGINE. OIL PRESSURE (or something to that effect) were displayed on the console. The engine was running smoothly w/o any unusual noises. After stopping the car, checking the oil level which was at the max level (oil clean, no burning smell), I restarted the car to see both the check oil warning light and the computer message gone. A mechanic from the gas station where I stopped told me that the oil pressure sensor could be faulty or an electronic (vs. mechanical) problem. The situation has not repeated itself yet. Could this be an indication of a potentially serious problem with the engine/electronics? Any help greatly appreciated.

: The car has ~70K milles on it.

Did you by chance wash your engine before this happened? Let me know if you did & I'll tell you were to look. If not, it's something else.
