The reluctance of the dealers to help me or do the test when i first approached them led to me doing several things as a show of good faith. Before running the tests at the first dealership I had had an inspection II service two months before at another dealership. They told me that the rough idle due to a misfiring coils so I replaced two at their request. The problem was still there and they were still reluctant to do the test and blamed it on the intake manifold plate (I'm not sure if that's the right name). Problem still existed and they said some vaccuum hoses were leaking. Had them replaced as well. Only then did we go on and do the test. they would have done the test the first day i stepped in there if I had pushed but i didn't want to. I know how well I maintain my car and i even doubted some of the things that were replaced were bad because they would have been brought up during the inspection II but I wanted to develop a relationship with the advisorand wanted to be on the same page with them. I didn't beleive someone could give me the correct test results if I rushed them into it or did it while they were convinced the problem was elsewhere. I laughed it off with him each time after paying for one thing only to get the car back exactly the way it was and kind of let him suggest the next step. Not only have I been humiliated Salts but I've also spent quite bit of money alreaday. about $1,200.00 at the first dealer.
At the second dealer, they made me pay for 4 hours of diagnostics before doing the tests ($370.00)
In all including the Inspection II I've spent $2,000.00 but I really don't care about the money. You can play the fool just to make someone else feel better about their job (which he gets paid for) but I guess I got tired of doing that after a while. I know the world isn't that way but dealing with each issue just like it is is a better policy. The dealer who is the authority when it comes to these cars could not find a problem with the car (and got paid hansomely to come to that conclusion) so why should I offer to pretend that there are problems with it when all that'll mean is that I shell out more money.
One of the reasons the BMWNA rep approved this was because they couldn't find anything else wrong with the car.
