In the Euro Electronic Parts Catalog CD-ROM all the parts are to install a 6 speed in a 740i

The weight myth:
740i (5 speed auto) 4255 lbs unladen 5313 max
850Ci (6 speed manual) 4123 lbs unladen 4906 max
850Csi (6 speed manual) 4168 lbs unladen 5072 max
M5 (6 speed manual) 4024 lbs unladen unknown
I would be willing to bet that the additional 100 lbs of the 740i will be undetacable on an appropriatly tuned suspension.
