1/. BMW 730iA Stereo control unit failure:-
I have recently purchased a 1995 BMW 730iA E38 series ex Singapore. As part of the purchase process I got an independent BMW service centre to check out the car. The only thing they came up with was a faulty audio system. I was advised that this is a Philips unit and is very expensive to repair, as the system is fairly sophisticated and that they usually just got replaced. At the moment the CD player will not play the audio, but does show what CD slot the CD is in and what track you’re on. You can change tracks etc, but no audio. The tape and the radio work fine, except when you turn up the volume from either the knob on the main unit or the controls on the steering wheel it clicks through the speakers as you turn it up. This is the second BMW 730i E38 series that I have heard this in and at first thought it was normal, but I have been told that this is the first sign that it is about to die. Heat and the fact that the fan in the main unit has failed usually cause this. This and the fact that it was in hot country, Singapore. Apparently the unit is more than just the stereo, but also some of the on board computer and PDS system etc.
Does anyone know if they can be effectively repaired, or are the landfill and need replacing ? If they can be repaired can you please email me the details.
2/. GSM Phone Kit:-
My car doesn’t have the internal GSM phone, which usually sits in the armrest between the two front seats. Does anyone know if it is possible to fit the original unit after market as an accessory ?
