Turn your ignition key to postion 1 hold for 1 minute. Then turn to off position...wait a few seconds then start the car. This should reset it...if it does not go immediately away, drive for a few miles and it should reset itself.


Hi Guys! Does anybody know if this warning message(and its corresponding "BRAKE" red indicator light in the dash) goes out automatically after linings are changed on a 1999 740iL, or do you have to reset it? (how do you reset it?) Thanks in advance!

No. The brake pad wear sensors on the E38 are ruined, once they have contacted the rotors. There is a fine wire in the sensor, which is broken by contact with the rotor.

Go to the dealer and get new brake wear sensors. About $35 for both. Easy install.
