I've got a 2000 740iL and I don't believe there is even an option for a Premium Sound - the standard package has the DSP system.
I'm also not very impressed with the system - one would think that you would get a much better quality system in a $70k plus vehicle.
I've been looking into the system upgrades offered by a/d/s - you may want to check out their web site at http://www.adst.com/pages/ads_home.html.
I have spoken to a guy there named Pat Molettieri (his contact info is on their web site) who has been very helpful. You can also frequently find him on the rec.audio.car newsgroup.

Anyone have recommendations on uprading the sound system? I have the 2001 740i w/ Sports Package. I don't think I have the premium sound system. It does have DSP which I'm not that impressed with.
