Your are almost there. The trick is to slide the body molding below the head light to the center so you can remove it. then slide the retainer clips you mentioned (adjacent to the side markers)...now use a flash light to look between the bottom of the headlight assembly and the top of the bumper...you will see two "torque" nuts. Use the proper side torqe screw driver to remove them. Search this page for "headlamp lenses" and you will find an earlier post that I have out their with the proper size of torque screw driver. Good luck.

I am looking at some instructions and I don't see the nut that you are talking about. I have a drawing that I can fax to you, just email me at enelson@cnc.com.
I assume this car does not have HID lights? Did you actually remove the trim below the lights (it really does just slide toward the center of the car). If not, then I can see how you could be hung up.

You mean "torx" head screw, which is the star shaped center design. Not a problem with the tools. Thanks.

I'll give it another try but my attempts to gently pry the trim piece to the center of the car would not work. I was hesitant to force it for fear of damaging the finish or breaking it.

Is there any magic trick to prying it over. It's clear from all the instructions I've read (and pictures I've downloaded from alldatadiy.com) that once I get that trim piece off, I'm home free.

Wish me luck.
