I have a '97 740i and sometimes the front drivers side and passenger side windows open about 1 inch by themselves when the car is parked. The rear windows don't do this. I know that some BMW's have/used to have a function where the windows would lower briefly and then raise to create a better seal but, to the best of my knowledge, mine doesn't have this. This happens very intermittently and I haven't spotted any patterns as to when it happens.

Any thoughts?

Sorry hit button too soon.

The comment about timed venting has nothign to do with the opening of the windows.

DL is correct in that you might be holding the unlock button too long and theerefore starting to open the windows (you do know that holding that button down will open all the windows and sunroof)

BUT
There is another issue that might be coming ito play here.
On 97 5 series there was a timing fault in the software of the general module. When unlocking the car (sequentially opeing the doors with 2 pushes) if you hit the unlock button for the second time with-in 1.4-1.8 seconds of hitting it the first time then the system briefly starts to open the front windows. it quickly stops but the windows are now open just a crack.

So if it is not the first issue, you may want to consider the second possibility.

Cheers
Jim Cash
