My solution, after lots of backaches, experiments with seat positions, and almost trading the car, has been to get a thick foam seat cushion larger than the standard cushion, then covering it with custom sheepskins. This enlarges the seat, allowing you to sit an inch forward, which reduces that damn lumbar support protrusion. It also adds much needed thigh support.
I like the car otherwise and have considered getting seats from a wreck and having them modified. The right mods would fix the lumbar problem, enlarge the bottom cushion and make it a bit softer, and provide for some lateral support. This alone would improve the car 100% in my opinion.
Somebody at BMW must know about this but for some reason they have a design that persists despite many complaints. The head designer may even have long arms, short legs, and a long torso. By the way, I think you have deflated the lumbar bag all the way and now it's juct the bulk of the assembly that you feel. Maybe we could remove them entirely? Anybody ever gotten into the seats?

I have been unable to completely deflate the lumbar support and neither can the dealer. I find the support too firm and really annoying and have to continously vary the setting from top to bottom and then increase the pressure and then try to decrease it all the way which still doesn't work. My impression is that it is impossible to deflate the support completely. the passenger seat is like that also.Anyone else, or is it just my 62 year old back? It's really annoying.
