I hate to diagree with the other comments, but I believe that you will notice a major change with the Dinan mods. I did the chip repacement first and noticed an substantial improvement in the low and middle RPMs, especially at part throttle. Next I did the transmission and CAI and, while not as dramatic, there is certainly a change in the middle and upper ranges. It also adds a throatier noise when the throttle is pressed. I cannot comment on the how well the CAI filter works for air quality, but I do believe that they need to be changed more often than recommended - at least every 20,000 miles versus the 30,000 that Dinan says. You should be aware that this job requires loosening the front bumper for access - something that will cost you an hours worth of labor at any dealer. While CAI stand alone may not be common in Europe, they are very common in all models of American cars for tuning. I believe the reason that the CAI is not well used as a stand alone mod in Europe is that the Europeans do a lot of supercharging and turbocharging and use CAI as part of that mod. (the ESS system does) It just gets lost in the noise as part of that effort. I believe my Dinan mods, without exhaust, lowers my 0-60 by around 0.5 seconds. Since Road and Track measured the 740i Sport at 5.9 seconds, I believe that I am in the low/middle 5s. This mirrors the same numbers that the 540ia (see 5 E-38 board) gets with Dinan - the 740 is only 450 lbs heavier. The next step is to add the Supersprint exhaust and a Hamann rear skirt. I am changing my tires to 255/40R18 on the front and 295/35R18 on the rear. I would also strongly recommend getting some other exhaust other than Dinan's (like the Supersprint). Dinan takes used 740 mufflers, changes the baffles, welds on new tips, and resells them. Suppersprint has much better quality and probably will give you a higher improvement in HP. They cost around $1250 for the 740i - cheaper than Dinan.

I'm thinking of adding the Dinan Stage 2 software, cold air intake, and perf. exhaust to my 740iS. Are there any side effects such as rough idle or increased noise from such add-ons?
Thanks in advance for you responses
Jay
