I know the owner of a large BMW dealership, he told me that when the E46 330's came out that all the 328's were discounted largerly. The large discount came from the BMW factory rebate, and then the dealer gave some too! Their 328's were cleared out in a week, and the people who bought them got them for one hell of a deal! That is my suggestion to you, wait till the new model comes out, you will get a 01' for a steal! Besides don't buy the first year the least standard
features come on the first year of a new model! as well they might do the same thing with the new 7 as the E46 with the 328/30! If I was you I'd wait for a 2003, at least you'll get it right away then, the waiting list should be gone by then. Buying a last year model is good, because it has been perfected by using all the previous model years as testers! Besides the new 7 looks like the type of styling that has to grow on you, from what I've seen.

Good Luck,
Mazen

Given that the next generation 7-series is on the way, is it a mistake to purchase a new 2001 740iSport?

I currently own a 540i-Sport. I've driven a 2000 740iSport, and was very impressed. I really like the drive and the looks of the car. Though I've seen a few pictures of the "new" 7-Series, I'm not sure how accurate these pictures are. And the ones I have seen are not really good enough to develop a strong opinion. Some of the pictures I've seen, I don't like -- meaning I'd be happier with the older body style.

Any thoughts? Also, for any of you who have purchased a 740 recently, what's a fair purchase price? I just receieved a quote -- $2,500 under sticker. That seems a bit high to me, for a car in it's last year.

Thanks.

Brian
