My '97 740IL (Manufactured 12/96) used to scan when I pressed the Up/Down steering buttons. That was with the original sofwtare in the radio. I recently had to have the radio software upgraded to take care of the I-bus conflict problem (radio MID display and buttons would sometime not work if the radio was in the ON position when the car was started, see SI 65-05-97) and the new software causes the radio to cycle through presets now instead of scan. It also now causes the radio preset number, frequency and band to be displayed on the console display. Much better!

My MID blanks out too, so I guess this is the fix. Service dept. "couldn't find the problem." (big surprise.)

now to convince the dealer to do the bulletin...
