He probably had a manual transmission which makes a huge difference in staight line acceleration. He could probably speed out of turns better than you too. If your concerned about getting better performance, mileage, and control you should go with a manual next time

I can't believe it, my car has 52,000 miles on it and it has been well taken care off. Last night after clubbing, a white 325i probably around the year 1993 because it still has a black under spoiler wanted to race me. I put my transmission at D and floor it. To my surprise, the 325i pulled away from me after 25 miles/hr fast, I mean REAL fast. Then we came upon a red light. This time I'm more ready and I put the transmission in 4 (which is the sport mode since there's an S writen on the instrument display. Then I floored it again, it was the same result. Oh my god, this big brother car has lost speed to the youngest brother car. Outrageous.

From now on, I'm gonna think about getting Dinan performance chip, air intake and exhaust and see if it helps a bit to move this big ass car faster.
